Placing the Emotions

The Nomadic Oracle shows that it is seeing the energy of a situation or an individual which provides a subtle gauge in understanding an issue clearly. Thinking in terms of energy, and no matter how careful and indeterminate an approach one adopts, it eventually becomes an obvious task to seek a link between the Senses and the ancient, traditional Chakra 'system', which seems to be as close a description of the entire ethereal body as has so far been developed. By understanding and feeling the flowing and absorbing nature of the extraordinarily powerful emotional body for example we can visualise the emotions sharing and contributing equally both to the intellect and to the physical body. This is because of the particular form of energy developed through the emotions which variably blends the 1st and 2nd Chakras, an observation which is fully reflected in a true experience of life. The Nomadic Oracle names the blended energy Fire - the physical in intimate contact with the emotional body.

Using the same approach, the Oracle also blends the 2nd and 3rd Chakras. Again this simply mimics the lived experience through our other 'variable of choice', the emotions in their play with the intellect. The Oracle calls this energy Water - the intimate connection between the emotions and the intellect. This is not always such an easy territory to perceive because of a cultural assumption that often results in the suppression or repression of the emotional body. This produces one of our greatest dilemmas. The cultural dismissal of honest, freely expressed emotional energy feeds the ego, both that of the individual and that of a collective social miasma which often manifests as outright human arrogance.

The higher Chakras ascend, or perhaps more accurately, they expand through the heart beyond the physical, emotional and mental energies of the 'mundane' world. These have a one-for-one correspondence ~  4th : Earth,  5th : Air,  6th : Consciousness.

It is the nature of our emotional energy which creates a curious symmetry:- a passionate lover's heart can be described as an emotional resonance beating between the physical body and the mind. Within the aura, it vibrates in and around the 2nd Chakra with an excitement which can be felt. However the Om point, the Heartspace of Universal Love, centers the entire human person in the 4th, the Heart Chakra. Expanding awareness outwards from the heart allows us to reach beyond first order reality through Imagination, the Creative and Seeing - observing and experiencing a little of what exists beyond the Bubble of Perception. The result also seems to liberate and strengthen our experience of a Heart Mind.

Many people seek to harmonise through the Heart Chakra which, for balance, appears to develop the tightest of dualities in its play between the Universal and the intensely Personal - between the ideal and the practical. The Oracle names this 'heart of the matter' the 'OM Point'. It is often the center of maximum friction and provides the richest information. This odd symmetry seems to go unnoticed but is the source of amazing complexity and has a distinction which seems to power human existence. The heart chakra, our natural if extended center of gravity, is a portal to the ethereal.

The Senses

A similar approach links the energy blends and Chakra connections directly to an appropriate Sense

Fire : Smell ◊  ◊ Water : Taste ◊  ◊ Earth : Touch ◊  ◊ Air : Sound ◊  ◊ Consciousness : Sight ◊

Like any visualisation of complexity, this mental map may be no more than a metaphor. In a way it is simply a device - a codex by which a few cards in an oracle can try to offer themselves to a greater universe. However, by a curious route, it has been the open-ended intention of a small group of people working in isolation through meditation, Reiki, ritual and dance to study the relationships between the Elements, the Senses and the Chakras which has led to the discovery of the Oracle and then been hugely rewarding in getting to clearer and more profound interpretations.

In support of the system adopted by the Nomadic Oracle it can be said that the only real shift away from some classical systems, apart from the blends, is that smell is associated with Fire in and above the root chakra. To the Nomadic Oracle, Fire is a variable physical and emotional blend related to work, potential and deliberate action. The ‘energy of energies’. "There can be no work without heat" appears to be a fundamental law of the Cosmos. "There can be no workers without their smell" seems to be the universal judgement of the middle classes. Smell works sex with pheromones and work makes us smell. Aromatic plants thrive in hot environments, it takes heat to release the relevant molecules. Too little, in the Arctic, there is no smell. In the hottest deserts perhaps it is the same. Fire-smell-sex and the tantras are where the Kundalini- the raw spirit of life - resides, coiled deep in the roots.

The water : taste : emotional mind - the variable 2nd and 3rd chakra blend - can be seen the same way. The sense of taste may carry the idea of discernment, an emotional and mental activity by which we form our opinion of the world around us. We have adapted our taste mechanism; it needs water so badly that we manufacture our own saliva. We probably all experience massive emotional and mental relationships with water, in harmony or in terror. Water - mind metaphors are common in some languages.

Perhaps the keys to the Oracle's take on energy and the Chakras can best be explained through our casual use of language. This helps to understand the 'system' more intuitively. 'Going with the flow' can mean going for a swim, but we often mean calming the mind and the emotional body, perhaps to raise consciousness in the heart where we might be in touch with a true, balanced center point. Also a form of grounding - one in which unconditional, universal love plays it’s beautiful role. Hearing the wings of the angels. Seeing every moment as a perfect blessing to the self and to others. Expanding consciousness then towards a becoming of wholeness and silent knowledge.

Sight and Sound in Detail

It is of course only through use that the Nomadic Oracle can show the simplicity of systematically splitting reality into the fundamental - elemental - parts. This, in itself, is not unusual but rarely does a method of divination emerge which seems able to answer a simple enquiry about the direction of a future impact or event. "Am I or will I be causing this issue?" will often remain a question frustratingly out of reach or produce a highly ambiguous response. Anyone seriously using a future-telling system presumably accepts that the Universe will respond with precision but the recipient may not be able to comprehend the answer. Working with the Nomadic Oracle is empowering in two ways. It can easily show direction because the Senses and the Elements & Spirits are twinned. The latter are incoming whereas the Senses begin with an internally generated signal or energy and thereafter are outward in direction. They emerge from the center of the self and drift from the Receptive towards the Creative. By offering this simple opportunity to the Universe to indicate a direction it is also obvious that there will be times when it isn't the direction of an event that is really important within the flow or the flux. This may guide the enquiry by indicating the possibility of other priorities.

The Sense of Sound in the Nomadic Oracle is given to the card 'Ethereal Voices' and is twinned with 'the Elements & Spirits of Air' - as an inner manifestation or a harmonic resonance. The two cards are intimately linked through conversation and music and from there to all forms of communication. Seen from the center of the bubble, 'the Elements & Spirits of Air' - the 'message' perhaps - is incoming and might be thought of as requiring a microphone, whereas the Ethereal Voices, being outward, would communicate through a loudspeaker.

The cluster of energy concentrations surrounding the mouth, ears and larynx, in unison with the fifth Chakra - which many believe is dedicated to psychic communication - and another mysterious balancing node at the nape of the neck, this is the most vulnerable part of the whole energy body and also perhaps the most symbolic. The Elements of Air bring music, speech, writing, reading and all other forms of communication. This is often a strong energy in people, perhaps because of the vulnerability of the neck and throat. It is a highly complex part of the spectrum and very vulnerable to the manipulations of dominator and taker energies. When the Spirits of Air are overactive the realities of the world often appear to become undifferentiated. Air, like communication, is omni-directional and molecular in nature and made safe or palatable by being free-flowing. The Sound/Air interzone may be the key to understanding other people at any frequency. Perhaps these cards may suggest issues related to how to interpret the advice, opinions or interventions of others.

Seeing

When the card 'Seeing' emerges in a reading, it may simply be indicating that what you are or have been thinking about is a truth, don’t doubt your other instincts but go with them. This is a particularly powerful message, both in a single card reading and when it plays to any position in a spread. It may be rewarding to ask your higher self for the picture you may have been uncertain about. The twin of the 'Elements & Spirits of Consciousness', 'Seeing' is one of several cards in the Nomadic Oracle which can bring a sense of affirmation, each with a slightly different flavor. For example, 'Emergence' in the Realm of Transition talks of completion of a step in the process whereas 'Insight' (Realm of Guidance) suggests an inspiration 'out of the blue' or beyond the available data. 'Seeing' seems to have the energy of 'absorption', of 'the gaze'. A crystalisation of feelings and suggestions perhaps.

Consciousness

Easily recognised in language, the link between the Sense of Sight and Consciousness is a 'given'. In the Oracle this is a connection between comprehension, insight and the subtlety of a third eye which brings to a Seer an un-nameable other. There are many ways to acquire the skills of dreamtime, of seeing beyond the bubble of perception and achieving an awareness of the human aura. Beyond the container-like energies of idiom and belief, generators of the fears of the unknown, it seems the only hazard may be over-attachment. It often feels like a beautiful and loving world out there.
